Waterfall Wednesday at St. Mary and Virginia Falls
This is an easy to moderate hike of less than 4 miles and not much elevation gain.
Times are approximate.
7:45 am – 9:45 am: Meet your guide at our West Glacier office at 7:45 am. Your guide will do a quick orientation, check over your gear for the day, and go over last minute details. We will drive nearly the length of the iconic Going to the Sun Road en route to the trailhead.
9:45 – 12 pm: We will hike to St. Mary and Virginia Falls through a sun-dappled forest with incredible views. We have the opportunity to hike right up to the base of these two majestic waterfalls!
12 – 1 pm: We’ll relax and enjoy a hearty and homemade trail lunch at Virginia Falls. Our trail lunches are largely locally and organically sourced, and generally include homemade cookies, fresh fruit and vegetables, chips, and your choice of a turkey, ham, roast beef, or veggie sandwich. Our in house kitchen can accommodate nearly any dietary restriction or preference – just ask! While we eat, your guides, who are passionate and encyclopedic about Glacier National Park, will talk to you about Glacier’s history. On this hike, we focus on learning about the history of humans in Glacier, including the Salish, Kootenai, and Blackfeet Native Americans, as well as the early European trappers and explorers.
1 – 5 pm: We return along the same route, while your guide answers any questions that you might have about the park. You’ll end the day knowing more about Glacier National Park than you ever expected.
5 pm: Typically, we return to the Glacier Guides and Montana Raft office by 5pm.
