Because Everyone Loves the Many Glacier Road
Big news! The jaw dropping, beloved Many Glacier Road is getting a little love this summer. This is a good thing for Glacier National Park and everyone who loves it – the road is in serious need of repair. But in order to live your best life on your 2020 Glacier vacay, you’ll need to get started applying Leave No Trace Principle #1 – Plan Ahead and Prepare. Because the construction necessary to preserve the road is going to result in delays, as all construction projects do. And because construction crews will need the entire road to themselves (i.e. from the park boundary) from April 1 through May 17, 2020. Then, after the Many Glacier Hotel closes for the season, the crew will again need the entire road from September 21 through December 16, 2020.

All of this means that the Many Glacier Valley won’t be available for early and late season pursuits this year. And that’s okay. The road needs repairing, and we’re all about pouring love into our park. You, savvy traveller, should also known that in between those dates, i.e. May 18 through September 20, 2020, you might encounter delays driving in and out of the valley during the day. The park is estimating 40 minute delays, but of course that’s hard to predict before the project gets fully underway. If you’re a very late or very early traveller, you may encounter periodic night work on the road. The park told us that visitors traveling through construction zones Monday through Friday between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. may experience up to a 3-hour delay.

What does all of this mean? Well, it means good things for the Many Glacier valley in the long run! But it also means that the best planned Glacier 2020 vacations will consider this construction project.
