North Fork of the Flathead River Float Trip Description
This custom Wilderness Float and Cabin Adventure trip meanders down the gorgeous Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. Instead of camping out, you’ll take off the river in world famous, off-the-grid Polebridge, Montana, and check in to the rustic North Fork Hostel. This float is perfect for those seeking a peaceful, scenic trip without the splash of whitewater rapids. The North Fork of the Flathead is a locals’ favorite, but a secret to most. We take care of all the details so you can just relax and enjoy the beauty of the river. See our Packing List – Overnight for more information about what to bring.
Rather camp out river side? Check out our Custom Overnight Rafting experiences here.
North Fork of the Flathead River Float Trip Day 1
You will meet us at our office in West Glacier at 9:00 am. We will help you pack your gear for the trip, go over the details of the float, and drive to the river put-in above Polebridge. We’ll use the Ford Creek put-in unless the river is running high, in which case we could go all the way to the Canadian border. This is the most remote and least floated section of the river. Moose, deer, bear, and wolf sightings are not uncommon! We’ll have lunch along the river’s edge. The night will be spent at the North Fork Hostel in Polebridge. The unique town of Polebridge is a throwback to the days of old. This area is much like it was 100 years ago. There is a mercantile and the Northern Lights Saloon, where we will dine and share stories.
North Fork of the Flathead River Float Trip Day 2
You’ll be floating from Polebridge to Big Creek on the North Fork of the Flathead River. Everything on river left is Glacier National Park and on river right is Flathead National Forest. You’ll enjoy another delicious lunch riverside, too. We’ll take-out at Big Creek for the shuttle back to our West Glacier office. We will be back by 5 PM.
All meals, equipment, permits, transportation, and guide services are provided.
Facilities at the North Fork Hostel
- The North Fork Hostel is propane powered and has washrooms with hot showers and the spiffiest outhouses on the North Fork of the Flathead River!

- Fresh linens are provided.
Guests should call our office the day prior to departure at 406-387-5555 or 1-800-521-7238 to check-in. The day of the trip, you should arrive at our office by 9:00 AM to meet your guide. You’ll go over your gear at that time, pack it in our waterproof dry bags, get fitted for life jackets, and then head for the river! We are located 1.5 miles west of West Glacier on Highway 2. Look for our Glacier Guides and Montana Raft sign on the north side of the highway, between mile marker 151 and 152. Our property is just off the highway, tucked in the trees. When you see our sign turn to the north and you will see us shortly thereafter.
